ASPIRING LADIES ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM (ALEP)
…supporting the growth of women-led businesses in Oyo State
The need for this initiative was from the latest unemployment rating, released by the National Bureau of Statistics for the fourth quarter of 2016. The rating shows that 16.3 per cent of women in the labour force were unemployed as compared to 12.3 per cent of males.
This is also from an informed fact that women are talented and many have learnt several skills, such as, event management, fashion designing, catering etc. These skills can in turn generate income for them. However, for the fear of failure, lack of funding or competence to manage and grow the business, many women have resolved not to be self -employed. Some women also have a challenge fitting into the workplace after childbirth, hence, they become sit-at-home moms.
The program will be divided into three phases.
Stage One: Registration and one day training program. This will focus on getting the participants to attend our one day training program. They will also have the opportunity to pitch their ideas to panellists and businesses with high viability will be moved to stage two. This stage will come at little or no cost to the participants.
Stage Two: This will be referred to as the preparatory stage. We will offer support in preparing the business for launch. We will ensure all the building blocks to run a successful small business is put in place. This will be dependent on the capacity of the business. We will support the business owner with business plan, business registration, website design, and access to SME loan of 80,000 Naira to not more than 1, 000,000 Naira, access to customer database within Oyo State and access to suppliers.
Stage Three: This stage will be optional to the business owner. We will offer to render business management/monitoring to the promoter at a discounted renewal consulting that will be agreed.
Upon kick off of the business, we will be open to the promoter for any advice or guidance required.
- Provide the support and motivation needed to get the business idea running as well as create an avenue to facilitate loans, access to potential customers and collaboration with successful business partner.
- Participants will have the opportunity to pitch their ideas and outstanding ideas will get a two to three months business support from the host companies.
